The City of Santa Ana officially opened new and renovated basketball courts across two park locations in late September 2026. Residents now have enhanced facilities for recreation at Lillie King Park and Angels Community Park. These public amenity upgrades were celebrated with community events held on September 28 and September 29, 2026, marking the completion of both projects.
At Lillie King Park, located at 500 W. Alton Avenue, the project involved the installation of a completely new basketball court. This new facility adds a dedicated space for basketball activities within the park. The completion of this court provides residents with a modern and fully functional area for sports and community engagement.
The Angels Community Park project, situated at 914 W. Third Street, focused on renovating an existing court. This initiative addressed an aging court, transforming it into an updated facility. A key feature of the renovation included the application of special cooling pavement. This specialized material is designed to reduce heat absorption, aiming to provide a more comfortable playing surface for users. In addition to the innovative pavement, the Angels Community Park renovation also incorporated new lighting installations, enhancing visibility and allowing for extended hours of use. New restrooms were also constructed as part of this project, further improving the overall amenity for park visitors.
Both the new court at Lillie King Park and the renovated facilities at Angels Community Park were designed to ensure broad accessibility. Each project included the development of ADA-compliant paths. These pathways provide accessible routes to the new and upgraded courts, supporting use by all members of the community.
The opening events for both locations were accompanied by community programming. The City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency organized free basketball activities and programming. These events provided an opportunity for Santa Ana residents to experience the new facilities and participate in recreational activities coordinated by the City.
The completion and opening of these courts contribute to the recreational infrastructure available to Santa Ana residents. The projects represent investments in public spaces, offering updated facilities for sports and community gatherings. The City of Santa Ana’s initiative aims to enhance the quality of life through improved park amenities, providing accessible and modern basketball courts for public use.
