Orange County Register reported that Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach has finished a multimillion-dollar renovation project covering its guestrooms and public areas. The hospitality property updated a total of 159 guestrooms alongside 10 suites. Workers also refreshed the main lobby and the on-site bar. The drinking establishment reopened under a new moniker, Bar nineteen48, which pays homage to the establishment's history. The title draws inspiration from the founding year of the original Balboa Bay Club.

Historical records note that the club originally established its operations in 1948. At that time, the location functioned as a private gathering venue for local boaters and members of the Newport Beach social scene. Decades later, the space transitioned to open its doors to the general public in 2004, marking 56 years after its initial debut. DesignAgency's work encompassed both private rooms and public gathering areas, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout the property.

Cindy Racco, who serves as the managing director for both the resort and the club, told Orange County Register in a statement that the capital improvement serves as a significant milestone in the property's ongoing development. She stated that the updates successfully redefine the arrival, stay, and gathering experience for visitors. DesignAgency handled the comprehensive reimagining of the spaces using three core guiding principles for the redesign: modern glamor, laid back charm, and an evolved haven.

Inside the refreshed guestrooms and suites, visitors will find updated furnishings, improved lighting fixtures, and integrated technology systems. The integration of modern technology within the guestrooms pairs with luxury touches. The accommodations now feature high-end amenities, including Frette bed linens, Nespresso coffee makers, L’Occitane bath products, and Dyson hairdryers included specifically within the suites. The transformation of the lobby area creates a new focal point for guests arriving at the coastal resort.

The newly named Bar nineteen48 incorporates design elements inspired by mid-century Southern California aesthetics, featuring prominent amber tones. Bar nineteen48 honors the 1948 heritage of the Balboa Bay Club, bridging the property's historical roots with contemporary hospitality standards. Executive Chef Diego Bernal crafted a menu for the venue that offers a selection of classic cocktails alongside light bites and bar snacks.

The resort project represents a substantial investment in the coastal city's hospitality infrastructure, bringing upgraded features to one of Newport Beach's most recognized waterfront locations. The property continues to operate following the completion of these extensive interior improvements across its guest accommodations and common spaces.
