Navien, Inc. has officially opened its new Innovation Center & Training Academy in Irvine, California. The facility is designed to consolidate product development, engineering, testing, quality support, and practical training into a single location, aiming to enhance the company's engagement with the North American market, including contractors, distributors, and other industry partners.

The grand opening event gathered Navien representatives, contractors, distributors, customers, and industry partners, alongside company leadership from both North America and its global headquarters in Korea. This establishment represents a continued investment by Navien in its North American operations, with a stated focus on technology and innovation.

Functioning as a central hub for North American product development, engineering, testing, and quality response, the Innovation Center provides an environment for evaluating product performance specifically under North American market and field conditions. This setup is intended to more closely link the regional organization with Navien's broader research and development capabilities situated in Korea.

Activities planned for the facility include product performance evaluation, field testing, engineering analysis of customer and field quality issues, as well as product and component improvements. Additionally, the center will be involved in product certification and compliance, alongside the evaluation of emerging technologies and concepts relevant to the North American market.

TH Kim, CEO at Navien, Inc., indicated that the Innovation Center & Training Academy signifies a long-term investment in North America and its personnel. Kim explained that by bringing innovation, engineering, technical education, and partners together, the company aims to forge a stronger connection between market needs and future product development.

By positioning these capabilities nearer to customers and product users, Navien seeks to more rapidly integrate customer feedback, field data, certification requirements, and market trends into its product development and improvement cycles. Darren Sheehan, COO at Navien, Inc., elaborated that the center provides a dedicated environment for listening, testing, learning, and collaboration, thereby creating a more robust link between the North American organization and its global technology resources.

The Irvine facility is also set to foster collaboration with various industry partners, utility providers, academic institutions, and research organizations to identify emerging needs and explore new opportunities within the North American market.

A key aspect of the Irvine location is the integrated design of the Innovation Center with the Training Academy. The Innovation Center concentrates on developing and improving technologies and solutions, while the Training Academy focuses on translating these innovations into practical knowledge and field skills for professionals.

Compared to Navien’s previous training facility in Irvine, the new academy offers significantly expanded training space and a more immersive hands-on learning environment. It features dedicated classrooms and hands-on laboratories, enabling participants to combine theoretical instruction with product demonstrations, installation practice, inspection, diagnostics, and troubleshooting exercises.

CEO Kim also highlighted that innovation extends beyond the engineering lab, emphasizing the necessity for professionals who install, service, and support Navien products to comprehend and apply the technology in real-world scenarios. Kim noted that the Training Academy facilitates the development of these skills while establishing a direct feedback loop from the field back into the company’s innovation and product-development efforts.

The co-location of these functions is intended to foster a continuous exchange between training, field experience, and product development. Insights and questions arising during training can inform engineering and quality initiatives, and conversely, new technologies and product enhancements can be integrated into future training programs.

Furthermore, the Irvine Innovation Center will act as a crucial link between Navien’s North American business and its global headquarters in Korea. This closer collaboration between North American teams and global research, engineering, and product-development organizations is anticipated to increase the influence of North American market insights and field experience in the company's future product and technology development.

This grand opening marks a new phase for the Irvine facility and Navien’s North American business, characterized by an emphasis on integrating market feedback into product development, expanding technical education, and strengthening the connections between the company’s global structure and the professionals it serves.

This investment in Irvine follows another recent expansion, as Navien also held a grand opening for its renovated Training Academy in New Jersey. That facility now offers an improved hands-on experience for plumbing, HVAC, and water treatment products, complemented by two large training classrooms.
